Simply put, the watchword for 2010 home décor is “ease.” Simple, beautiful, lighter and brighter are all keys to creating wonderful spaces in 2010. Homes are trending to smaller footprints. Greater emphasis is being placed on creative use of space and the use of environmentally sustainable materials.

For 2010, a simple restful palette with pops of color creates a sense of comfort, calm, warmth and vibrancy. Shades of coral and red are clearly in the forefront for 2010. Both warm and bright yellows continue to add life to any room. Deep shades of blue and purple create depth and drama and contribute to a sense of peace in a space. Cooler, calmer shades of taupe, gray and grayed down brown will act as backdrops against which these shots of color can create soothing interiors with just enough drama to be interesting. Combining neutral backdrops with bold accent colors will create a chic refuge and will help a space come alive.

While desiring a more soothing look in our homes, we still crave a little “bling.” Shimmery finishes on fabrics and wall treatments, crystal, metallic finishes and sparkly, jewel like facets all enhance the “bling” factor and are being incorporated strongly in 2010 home décor trends. 2010 is “Shine Time!”

Nature themes also continue to dominate the 2010 home décor scene. Butterflies, honey bees, bird themed elements and strong floral prints are prevalent throughout this year’s design offerings, from jewelry to table top to fabrics and beyond. Embracing elements from the outdoors allows homeowners to take inspiration from the natural world around us to create a calm oasis in which to live our lives.
